Collection: Pelvic Organ Prolapse

What is Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) occurs when one or more pelvic organs—such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum—drop from their normal position and press against the walls of the vagina. This happens when the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments become weakened or stretched, often due to childbirth, heavy lifting, chronic coughing, aging, or menopause.

While POP is not usually life-threatening, it can cause discomfort, pain, and difficulties with urination, bowel movements, or intimacy. Managing symptoms and strengthening the pelvic floor are key to improving quality of life.

Symptoms of Pelvic Organ Prolapse

  1. A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the pelvis
  2. A visible or palpable bulge from the vaginal opening
  3. Lower back pain or discomfort
  4. Urinary incontinence or difficulty emptying the bladder
  5. Constipation or straining during bowel movements
  6. Pain or discomfort during intercourse
  7. A feeling of something “falling out” or dragging sensation

Natural Ways to Support Pelvic Floor Health

  1. Practice pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) – These help strengthen the muscles supporting your pelvic organs.
  2. Avoid heavy lifting or straining – This can worsen the prolapse or increase pressure on the pelvic floor.
  3. Maintain a healthy weight – Reducing excess weight helps relieve pressure on pelvic tissues.
  4. Stay hydrated and consume fiber-rich foods – Preventing constipation avoids further strain.
  5. Use supportive herbs – Like Cramp Bark, to help calm pelvic tension and promote circulation.
  6. Wear supportive undergarments if needed – Some women find external support garments helpful for daily comfort.
  7. Include anti-inflammatory foods – Such as turmeric, berries, and leafy greens to support tissue healing.

Note: While natural remedies and pelvic floor exercises can offer great support, severe or progressive cases of prolapse may require evaluation by a healthcare provider. If symptoms interfere with your daily life or worsen over time, don’t hesitate to seek additional medical advice.
